Union President

The Union President acts as the main spokesperson for YUSU, chairs the Union’s Board of Trustees and is responsible for the reputation, leadership and direction of YUSU as a democratic organisation. They work closely with the University’s Vice Chancellor and staff team, as well as key contacts in the city of York and, most importantly, students.

James Harrison

  • Ensure that Senior University management listens to student feedback and suggestions when making decisions on University life.
  • Bring back #RentRant for on and off campus students, pushing for a fairer price for on campus accommodation, whilst ensuring better standards for students who live off campus.
  • Lobby to ensure an on-campus club night is available once clubs can safely reopen using YUSU outlets and the RKC.

Luke Mason

  • To ensure that all students receive a reduction in their university tuition fees this academic year, and are partially reimbursed for their student accommodation.
  • Encourage a closer working relationship with the local council to ensure that students get the best possible deal when it comes to transport and private accommodation.
  • Represent the students of the University and hold the powers that be to account. It is essential that students come first in all decisions which the University make.

Patrick O’Donnell

  • Lobby the Government for genuine financial support and rent refunds, working nationally for a radical new approach to scrap tuition fees.
  • Launch SULets – our own Student Letting Agency, helping students to find properties and know their rights, and expand £99 rooms on-campus.
  • Hold our University to account. I’ll continue to champion our students: Colleges, societies, clubs and networks, and ensure everyone has fair access to funding.
