What made you decide to run? I decided to run because the University has not been taking environmental and ethical issues seriously. I want to see the University move away from its brand of performative activism entirely, and drastically change its policies to genuinely address climate change and modern slavery.
Why are you the best person for the job? As the E&amp;E Network&#8217;s Secretary, I am already involved with the group&#8217;s organisation. I am also carbon literate and I have a holistic understanding of the University&#8217;s IT supply chains. I will not be afraid to scrutinise all the University&#8217;s policies and to call out their surface-level activism.
What do you think the limits should be on students campaigning, and do you think those have been crossed over the last year? I believe that campaigning on campus should only be limited when it harms others, or when it aims to spread hate. I don&#8217;t believe those lines have not been crossed over the last year.

Environment & Ethics Officer

The Environment + Ethics Officer exists to promote sustainable and fair practices at the University of York. They consult with University management and influence policy. They raise awareness through student-led campaigns and make saving the planet enjoyable and accessible. They lead the Environment + Ethics Collective, a student-led group which campaigns for the University to follow environmentally and ethically sound policies and influences student habits to be more sustainable.
